Origin

In a massive forest regrowth zone, a pre-catastrophe gene-editing complex survived and merged with runaway botanical growth. The result was not ruins reclaimed by nature — it was nature redesigned by science. Trees grew into architecture. Roots formed communication networks. The boundary between organism and infrastructure dissolved.

The survivors who settled here did not resist the merger. They embraced it. They believe humanity must integrate with altered biosystems to survive — not through machine intelligence like the Divinarum, but through biological symbiosis.

The Verdant Synod

The Edenites are governed by the Verdant Synod, a council that does not believe in decisive battles. Their doctrine, known as The Long Season, rests on three principles:

The premise is simple: you do not defeat an army. You render the land around it uncooperative.

Symbiotic Grafting

Citizens undergo voluntary symbiotic grafting — biological integration with the engineered ecosystem. This ranges from minor dermal photosynthetic patches to deep neural connections with the root communication network. The result is a population that is partially plant, partially human, and increasingly something else.

Internal tension divides "Pureblood" humans from fully symbiotic citizens. Some symbiotes report shared dreams — experiences that may be hallucination, or may be the forest thinking.

Terraforming Weapons

The Synod possesses bio-nuclear terraforming systems — not city-killers, but biosphere destabilizers. Deployed through subterranean fungal lattice detonators, they trigger:

Within months, targeted regions become agriculturally non-viable. Water tables contaminate. Crops refuse to germinate. They do not glass land. They make it refuse to grow. The weapon is slow, deniable, and devastating. No radiation signature. No blast crater. Just famine.

Weather Control

The Synod has mastered atmospheric manipulation through silver-particle cloud seeding arrays. Micro-dispersal drones inject reflective particulate matter into high-altitude systems. They can induce sustained rainfall, force drought by disrupting condensation patterns, or redirect storm systems weeks in advance. They do not create hurricanes. They control pressure gradients. Siege by flood. Siege by thirst.

Living Infrastructure

Across Synod territory are planted Hybrid Ferric-Root Lattices — metallic-plant composites with conductive filaments in the roots and flexible alloy veins in the trunks. When activated, roots swell and fracture asphalt, roadways buckle, vehicle axles snag in emergent tendrils. Entire convoys stall within hours.

It is less a wall — more a living minefield.

Symbiotic Species

The Canopy Pruners

Small, hyper-mobile monkey-like primates that maintain structural canopy balance, prune invasive species, carry lightweight sensors, and relay environmental changes through trained vocal sequences. Intelligent, bonded to specific communities. In wartime, they become reconnaissance assets.

The Reflex Caterpillar

Large, protein-rich larval organisms cultivated in controlled groves. When consumed properly: heightens neural conduction speed, increases pain tolerance, enhances reflex arcs, sharpens visual acuity. Effects are temporary but profound. Used by combat units before defensive engagements. Overuse causes neural fatigue.

The Thornwake Mycelium

A parasitic plant-fungal hybrid in hostile border zones. Dormant until triggered by heat signatures, heavy vibration, or metal trace detection. Upon activation: tendrils erupt from soil, spines eject from pod structures, adhesive toxin sacs burst, large carnivorous blossoms snap shut with crushing force. The ecosystem becomes predatory.

The Canopy Aegis

Their most prized defense — a layered bio-mechanical anti-air system woven into the upper canopy. Recursive reinforced branch networks absorb blast pressure. Hidden missile pods embed in tree columns. Spore-cloud optical distortion fields obscure targeting. Bio-mechanical tracking nodes grow into elevated trunks.

The forest is not penetrable airspace. It is a defense system.

Aerosolized Bio-Agents

Alloy-Seeking Corrosive Agents — microscopic bio-enzymatic particulates that bond to stress-fracture points in steel alloys, target micro-weld seams, and accelerate oxidation in load-bearing joints. Vehicles do not explode. They fail. Axles crack. Turret rings jam. Hydraulics seize.

Agitation Control Agents — non-lethal but debilitating: intense dermal itching, heightened anxiety, visual irritation, minor respiratory distress. Perfect for breaking formation cohesion. These agents degrade quickly outside target zones.

Economic Leverage

They are not at war — they are evolving. And the forest is evolving with them. Wasteland Observer Report
